The Blank Theatre Company is set to open the West Coast premiere of George Furth’s Precious Sons, starring Nora Dunn, Gregory Jbara and Adam Wylie. Precious Sons is directed by Blank Artistic Director/Producer Daniel Henning and produced by Noah Wyle & Christopher Steele. Precious Sons is set for a six-week engagement beginning September 21, 2000 at the 2nd Stage Theatre in Hollywood.

Precious Sons tells the story of the Small Family, living in Chicago in 1949. The parents struggle against each other’s peculiarities to lead their two sons into manhood. It is an unsentimental and hilariously biting play written by one of the masters of the American theatre, George Furth.

Mr. Furth has not allowed a production of Precious Sons on the West Coast since its Broadway premiere. He was waiting for the right company and right director. Mr. Furth asked The Blank Theatre Company and director Daniel Henning to produce the play. He has actively been re-writing the play for this West Coast premiere.

Precious Sons stars Nora Dunn, who most recently was lauded for her performance opposite George Clooney in Three Kings, and is probably best known for her five year stint on "Saturday Night Live". Also starring is Gregory Jbara who recently played Billy Flynn in the smash hit revival of Chicago as well as creating the role of "Squash" in Broadway’s Victor/Victoria with Julie Andrews. In addition, Precious Sons stars Adam Wylie who is best known for his role on the hit series "Picket Fences". On stage, Adam played "Chip" in Beauty and the Beast at the Shubert Theatre and was seen last season at the Mark Taper Forum in House Arrest.

The cast also includes Michael Malota who was seen as the young Don Juan (Johnny Depp) in Don Juan Del Marco and Ginger Williams who was featured in Cruel Intentions.

A native of Chicago, George Furth did his undergraduate work at Northwestern University School of Speech and his graduate work at Columbia University. After a successful career as an actor, he went on to write Company, Getting Away With Murder, Merrily We Roll Along, The Supporting Cast, The Act, and Twigs. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild and the Actor’s Studio.

Precious Sons is directed by Daniel Henning, the Artistic Director/Producer of The Blank Theatre Company. Mr. Henning's directing credits (for the BTC) include: the West Coast premiere of Michael John LaChiusa’s Hello Again, the world premiere of The Why, Joe Orton’s Loot, Starr Struck, Breaking the Code (LADCC Award - Production), and the LA premiere of Chess. Mr. Henning was nominated for an Ovation Award as "Best Director of a Musical" for his production of The Cradle Will Rock. His productions have earned 5 LA Drama Critic’s Circle nominations, receiving four, and 11 Ovation nominations, winning four.

Noah Wyle, Blank’s Artistic Producer is producing Precious Sons along with Blank’s Producer Christopher Steele. Mr. Wyle is best known for playing "Dr. John Carter" on NBC’s "ER". His Blank producing credits include the Ovation Award nominated "Hello Again". Mr. Steele has produced many local theatre productions including the Ovation nominated production of "Death of a Salesman" with Jack Klugman. Mr. Wyle & Mr. Steele’s most recent producing effort is The Blank production of The Why.

The Blank Theatre Company has been honored with the LA Drama Critics Circle Award for "Outstanding Production" for Breaking the Code, the Ovation Award for "Best Musical – Smaller Theatre" for The Fantasticks and the LA Weekly "Musical of the Year" award for The Cradle Will Rock. It recently opened The Why at the Hudson Mainstage Theatre which has been extended, playing to sell-out crowds. Other productions include the West Coast premiere of Michael John La Chiusa’s Hello Again (Ovation Award), the World Premiere of Starr Struck: A Musical Investigation, and the LA premiere of Chess (Two Ovations, Two LADCC awards). The BTC recently completed its Eighth Annual Young Playwrights Festival where it has produced over 90 plays by playwrights 19 and younger in the past eight years.
